On Friday 18th November, the winners of the 2022 Plastics Industry Awards were announced at a black-tie evening gala at the Intercontinental Hotel, London. KraussMaffei UK is delighted to announce that Managing Director, Mike Bate, was awarded the prestigious ‘Plastics Industry Ambassador Award’ for his decades of service to the industry.

Now in its 21st year, the Plastic Industry Awards is the premier forum in the UK for recognising and rewarding excellence within the plastic processing industry. Hundreds of guests gathered at the event to celebrate the individuals and companies leading the way with innovation over the past 12 months.

The Industry Ambassador Award is a prized accolade awarded to an individual with a great history and significant contribution to the industry. Unlike the other awards on the evening that have lists of nominees published ahead of the event, the Ambassador award remains a surprise to the guests and nominees – meaning Mike had no idea about his nomination or his impending award!

With over 40 years of working in the plastics sector, Mike started his career at New World Cookers in Warrington as a Mechanical Apprentice, where he served his time in the toolroom before progressing into the drawing office.

Mike joined KraussMaffei UK in the late 1980s as a project engineer and was immediately thrown into the deep end with a multi-million-pound project at Ford Halewood. Mike then worked for KraussMaffei Germany on an extended placement, where he made many good contacts and developed the business knowledge that saw him progress through the ranks at KraussMaffei UK.

Shortly after his return from Germany, Mike was promoted to Business Unit Manager of KraussMaffei’s Polyurethane division.

In 2002, due to his success in the UK, and in particular, working with Johnson Controls, Mike was then appointed Key Account Manager for Johnson Controls, worldwide, which saw him frequently travel to the Far East and the Americas.

Mike’s success in this Key Account Manager role led to him being noticed by the KraussMaffei Group’s upper management, as he was appointed Managing Director of KraussMaffei UK in 2009. The rest, as they say, is history!

Congratulations Mike, on your well-earned recognition!
