In addition to new tooling, Faulkner Moulds provides several services for existing tooling: Inspection, measurement, repair, modification, servicing, maintenance, and refurbishment. The company also, within geographical limits, provide a responsive onsite service for our customers.

Faulkner Moulds is proud to be the preferred UK toolmaking partner for many of our UK customers who have invested in overseas toolmaking that requires additional work to launch it into production, or to maintain it and quickly resolve issues when in full production. For example, a UK customer who sources new tooling from a major Dutch toolmaker, uses the company exclusively for modifications and repairs, and the Dutch toolmaker has full confidence that it adheres to their stringent standards.

Faulkner Moulds often provides detailed measurement and inspection reports on existing tooling made by other toolmakers, usually as part of a ‘before and after’ service. For example, if only one cavity is not performing, Faulkner Moulds’ measuring techniques can pinpoint the inaccuracy, including features such as clip features, undercuts and sealing edges, so Faulkner Moulds can make tool adjustment recommendations to bring that cavity back up to specification.

The company have state-of-the-art measurement probe technology on its machines, plus the company’s leading-edge Mitutoyo Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). It incorporates the latest advancements in measuring technology for absolute accuracy, responding to increased demand for ever-tighter tolerances in toolmaking.

The CMM allows for highly accurate 3d and surface measurements at high speed. Faulkner Moulds’ industry-leading team can scan any 3d surface with it, to find the true shape of a part. The technology is used to measure the part against the CAD model, looking for surface deviation.

Faulkner Moulds has the technology to work to sub-micron accuracy. The company then uses its suite of sophisticated machinery to modify the tool accurately, including CNC spark and wire erosion and a high-speed vertical 5-axis graphite and hard metal machining centre, which enables automation of cavity machining, achieving a repeatable accuracy of 2 microns.

After correcting the tool, Faulkner Moulds provides a detailed report of results for the customer, which compares measurements before and after the work, to confirm the integrity of the modification work.
