Sumitomo (SHI) Demag UK is delighted to announce the promotion of Ashlee Gough to the position of Head of Sales for the UK and Ireland, effective 1 July 2025. This appointment reflects Ashlee’s continued dedication to supporting the plastics manufacturing sector and the growth of the company’s customer-first approach.
This well-earned promotion recognises Ashlee’s outstanding contribution over the past five years, supporting customers and colleagues across the UK, Ireland and Europe during some of the most challenging periods the plastics processing sector has faced.
Ashlee joined Sumitomo (SHI) Demag at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a period described by colleagues as “a weird time.” Despite the circumstances, he quickly became a driving force within the business, known for his tireless work ethic, enthusiasm and commitment to helping customers find the most efficient and effective solutions for their needs.
“Over the last 5 years, Ashlee has tirelessly supported customers (and colleagues in the UK, Ireland and Europe) navigating some of the most challenging conditions in our processing world. Always going above and beyond, it’s easy to forget that Ash is one of SDUK’s newer faces,” said David Raine, Managing Director at Sumitomo (SHI) Demag UK. “Ash has never lost his enthusiasm or passion to help customers source the best and most efficient solution that suits their needs. Proof that sales is now no longer just about selling.”
As the company continues to grow and strengthen its customer-focused strategy, Ashlee will lead the UK and Ireland sales function, supported by Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s service, engineering, automation, integration and product teams.
Ashlee’s journey also serves as an example of the varied career paths available in the plastics sector. His progression shows that roles in sales can involve a wide range of skills and experiences, from organising customer visits and participating in working groups to acting as a spokesperson and sector specialist—all while managing a work-life balance and raising a family.
