Flitetec Delivers Bespoke In-Seat USB Charging Solution for Leading European Airline

Flitetec, a UK-based specialist in aircraft interior components and modifications, has successfully delivered a tailored solution to meet growing passenger demand for personal device charging during flights.
A major European airline approached Flitetec with a specific challenge – to integrate a USB 2.0 charging port into its existing B/E Aerospace Pinnacle seat design, without altering the original space envelope or compromising the seat’s structural integrity.
The in-seat power supply unit was provided by KID-Systeme GmbH. Flitetec was tasked with the design and manufacture of four key elements required to complete the modification. The primary focus was on the escutcheon, which needed to be completely re-engineered to house the USB port while maintaining the existing locking interface with the seat arm and withstanding the required stress testing.
Flitetec’s solution allowed the USB port to be seamlessly integrated into the seat structure, providing passengers with a convenient charging option for their personal electronic devices, now preferred over traditional in-flight entertainment screens.
This project is a clear example of Flitetec’s ability to design, manufacture and integrate complex modifications within the constraints of existing aircraft interiors.
