RGE Group performed an initial ISO14001:2015 Gap analysis at itsWhittlesey and Alconbury sites and generated a detailed, comprehensive report, which highlighted the current areas of compliance with the requirements, as well as internally identifying the gaps that would require improvement to meet the standard, prior to applying formally with SGS to initiate Stage one in its journey to achieve certification to ISO 14001:2015.
One of the requirements for the certification is to have fully trained and qualified ISO14001:2015 lead auditors at the Whittlesey site. Chris Pickstone – Health, Safety & Environmental Manager, and Neil Simons – Logistics Manager, were both selected to undertake the training, with both achieving the qualification in July 2023 and August 2024 respectively. Chris Pickstone then took the lead of the project in April 2024 to ensure that the Whittlesey site achieved ISO14001:2015, with vital support from Neil Simons from September 2024 onwards.
With increased focus and efforts made throughout 2024, the Stage One Audit was undertaken by SGS Auditors in late November 2024. The Stage Two Audit then took place in late April 2025, and after a large effort made by the team, all of the requirements of the standard were met, which resulted in both RGE UK Whittlesey and Alconbury sites being awarded the certification. Three RGE sites have now achieved ISO14001:2015 certification, with the RGE Group Baltic site leading the way – the site was awarded the certification back in November 2023, led by Raja Jureviciene and the team in Lithuania.
About ISO14001:2015 and What It Means For RGE Group UK:
The certification demonstrates its limited impact on the environment, enhanced legal compliance and helps to cement the company’s dedication to sustainability and environmentally conscious practices, as ISO14001:2015 is the international standard for Environmental Management Systems.
RGE have developed a robust EMS (Environmental Management System), which is a structured framework that helps organisations to identify, manage, and reduce their environmental impact.
Waste handling, storage, sorting, and recycling are key elements of environmental conformance. RGE only use licenced waste carriers, and ensure that any hazardous waste is reduced as much as possible, and collected from site and disposed of as per the regulations covered by the WTN (Waste Transfer Notes).
The EMS in place focuses on continuous improvements, with much more recycling taking place. RGE have a large regrind facility at its Whittlesey site to recycle scrap plastic materials from the production process, which runs along RGE Group’s buy back scheme in which it recycles customer waste. With improved general recycling taking place, energy usage monitoring, and green energy being generated from 370 roof solar panels, RGE are looking forward to a better future with a reduced environmental impact.
