Wittmann MicroPower Celebrates Milestone in Medical Moulding
On April 1st, WITTMANN celebrated the anniversary of its 2008 acquisition of Battenfeld – a key turning point that led to the complete overhaul of its injection moulding machine portfolio. The acquisition resulted in the launch of four distinct machinery platforms: MicroPower, SmartPower, EcoPower, and MacroPower.
Among the earliest and most impactful of these was the MicroPower – a machine that quickly established itself as a benchmark for precision micro moulding in the medical and healthcare sectors.
Bradford University became the first customer to invest in the MicroPower, acquiring the machine directly from the WITTMANN BATTENFELD stand at K 2010. The machine went on to take pride of place at the University’s Centre for Polymer and Nano Technology, where it formed the foundation of Bradford’s ground-breaking work in micro moulding and injection moulding research.
The MicroPower has been central to the development of Bradford’s proprietary expertise in tooling, processing, and the commercial manufacture of medical components and devices – including advanced healthcare products such as dental implants. Since that first purchase, Bradford University has acquired a further three MicroPower machines and continues to collaborate with WITTMANN in both academic research and industrial application.
Now, more than a decade on, the MicroPower remains a flagship solution for medical micromoulding – delivering exceptional performance, repeatability, and part quality in demanding applications.
WITTMANN is set to spotlight the MicroPower’s capabilities further this year, with a series of in-depth reports and case studies. In addition, the company hints at forthcoming developments in micromoulding technology – expected to be revealed at the K 2025 trade fair in October.
