LATI Introduces Halogen-Free PA66 for Thin-Walled Electrical Components

LATI has developed a new flame-retardant PA66 compound for miniaturised electrical and electronic components where fire safety, insulation and performance at reduced thicknesses are critical.
LATAMID 66 H2 G/25-GWHF1 is reinforced with 25% glass fibre and formulated with a flame-retardant system completely free from halogens and red phosphorus. It is intended for applications including connectors, terminal blocks, power distribution systems, battery components and internal parts for household appliances.
The material is a further development of LATAMID 66 H2 G/25-V0HF1X, combining fire safety, electrical properties, dimensional stability and processability.
Its main technical characteristics include:
- UL94 V0 classification at thicknesses down to 0.4 mm
- CTI 600 V
- HWI PLC0
- HAI PLC0
- Ball Pressure Test at 230°C
- Stable performance across different thicknesses and technical colours
- VDE-certified Glow Wire performance
One of the compound’s most significant features is its performance in glow wire testing. These tests simulate accidental contact between a plastic component and overheated or incandescent metal parts, assessing the material’s resistance to ignition and flame propagation.
LATAMID 66 H2 G/25-GWHF1 achieves GWFI 960°C and GWIT 775°C. These values are certified by VDE across all thicknesses from 0.4 to 3 mm and for all available technical colours.
The combination of VDE-certified glow wire performance and UL94 V0 classification at reduced thicknesses makes the material particularly suitable for applications subject to IEC 60335 requirements.

In this context, designers need materials capable of maintaining reliable flame-retardant and electrical performance even in very thin sections. LATAMID 66 H2 G/25-GWHF1 was developed to provide this balance, combining VDE-certified Glow Wire performance, UL94 V0 classification at 0.4 mm and a completely halogen-free formulation,” commented Luca Posca, Group Technical Assistance & Marketing Director at LATI.
Independent VDE certification provides designers, OEMs and quality managers with technical data verified according to internationally recognised procedures. This supports material qualification, component validation and compliance with safety standards.
LATAMID 66 H2 G/25-GWHF1 is suitable for a wide range of applications, including:
