BPF Launches New E-learning Platform for Plastics

To celebrate the launch of the British Plastics Federation’s (BPF) new e-learning platform, PolymerCourses.com, the trade association is offering the first course featured on the platform for free (normally £120) for the first 200 registrants.

Sustainable Plastic Packaging—The Fundamentals of Good Design’ is the first of many courses that will be offered by PolymerCourses.com. It is an interactive, online course aimed at professionals across the packaging supply chain, including brands, retailers and manufacturers. It is suitable for packaging designers, sustainability professionals and even those working in sales and marketing.

Conceived with the busy, modern professional in mind, the course supplies essential knowledge in a concise format, counts towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and takes between one hour and 90 minutes to complete. Learners can access the course at any time and finish it later if they do not complete it in one sitting.

Building upon the well-understood notion that much of a product’s environmental impact can be addressed during the design phase, the course helps learners understand the steps needed to create more sustainable plastic packaging. After providing background information about the circular economy, it explores how to design plastic packaging that is easy to recycle and resource-efficient, as well as the important factors to take into account when incorporating recycled plastic or designing packaging that is to be reused. The course also touches on bioplastics and how to implement best practice within your business. Learners receive a digital certificate once they have completed the course and passed the assessment.

BPF Director-General, Philip Law, states:

“We are extremely excited to release our e-learning platform, which we anticipate will be a valuable resource for the plastics industry in an increasingly online world. We expect that the first course to feature on the platform will be of interest to many within the packaging supply chain, who are keen to integrate the latest thinking on sustainable design for packaging into their businesses.

“PolymerCourses.com is an exciting venture for the BPF, and soon we will be releasing more valuable courses, cost-effective and time-efficient, covering a range of topics that are vital to the industry.”

The course content was created by Brian Lodge, Design Manager at Berry Global and an expert in plastic packaging design, with over 30 years’ experience.
