DAS Demonstrates Mitsubishi Electric’s MELFA ‘ASSISTA’ Cobot

Design & Automation Solutions (DAS) has strengthened its partnership with Mitsubishi Electric – Automation Systems UK. The tech giant loaned one of its MELFA ‘ASSISTA’ collaborative robots to DAS to demonstrate its versatility in various industrial applications.

DAS has been working with Mitsubishi Electric’s MELFA ‘ASSISTA’ cobot for some time as part of its bespoke automation build project.

The engineering team has relished the opportunity to train and familiarise themselves with the cobot. Its incredible versatility is second to none and the company has prepared several demonstrations to highlight just a few of its possibilities. The video shows stacking operations and pick and place functions utilising its own end of arm tooling, as well as plasma surface treatments.

Partnership is key and none of this would have been possible without the help of SMC UK (who supplied the gripper) and Tantec-UK, the plasma surface treatments experts. However, the functionality isn’t limited to what you see. The team at DAS can tool and program the cobot for a multitude of applications.

Speaking of the partnership Mick Stallwood, Managing Director of Design & Automation Solutions, said:

As an SMEits so gratifying to work with tech giants. Having their support and ultimately recognition of what we can achieve empowers my team and goes a long way to secure our capabilities with our customers. Most of the systems we design are developed with off-the-shelf component integration and being able to showcase this level of flexibility through our partners is so rewarding.”
