ICS Cool Energy, an international market leader specialising in complete temperature control solutions for manufacturing process and facilities applications, is strengthening its focus on data centre cooling hire solutions in the UK and Ireland to support operational continuity at live sites during planned works, testing, maintenance and short- to medium-term capacity requirements.

Part of Trane Technologies, ICS Cool Energy provides specialist rental capability to critical cooling applications. The expanded offering positions temporary thermal support not only as an emergency response measure, but also as a planned resilience strategy for consulting engineers, contractors and site teams managing planned shutdowns, system upgrades, integrated systems testing (IST), maintenance and short-term capacity requirements.

Temporary Cooling for Commissioning, Maintenance and Contingency

This includes planned and contingency applications where temporary thermal hire helps maintain resilience, support commissioning and bridge short-term capacity gaps. Across the data centre project lifecycle, this can involve:

  • during commissioning, integrated thermal simulation packages combining temporary chillers, synchronised load banks and metering to support multi-level testing programmes and help keep commissioning schedules on track;
  • temporary chillers integrated into existing infrastructure during plant overhauls and maintenance windows to maintain cooling continuity and, where required, maintain or restore N+1 cooling redundancy while permanent equipment is offline;
  • redundant temporary cooling deployed rapidly in contingency scenarios to help reduce the risk of disruption during outages or unexpected thermal events;
  • supplemental cooling to manage peak seasonal demand or temporary periods of higher IT load; and
  • interim cooling capacity to support rapid expansion, phased fit-outs or short- to medium-term load increases while permanent upgrades are completed.

ICS Cool Energy Technology

“In data centres, uptime is everything. While sites are designed with multiple layers of resilience, temporary cooling provides an additional operational safeguard when permanent plant is unavailable, being tested or taken offline for maintenance,” said Dave Palmer, Managing Director of ICS Cool Energy UK and Ireland. “Whether supporting refurbishment, seasonal capacity extensions or Level 4 commissioning, contractors and site teams need dependable temporary solutions to protect uptime and keep projects on schedule.”

Technical Support for Live Data Centres

Beyond equipment supply, ICS Cool Energy supports customers with cross-industry application expertise around temporary plant sizing, system integration, load management and deployment planning in live, mission-critical environments.

Dave Palmer added: “As data centre projects become more complex and time-sensitive, the ability to bring in temporary cooling or heating at the right moment can be critical. The challenge is not simply to supply equipment quickly, but to ensure it can be integrated effectively into live, demanding site conditions. As we’re backed by the wider Trane Technologies ecosystem, we have the equipment and technical expertise to support the most complex projects across the UK and Ireland.”
