Faulkner Moulds, the multi-award winning UK toolmaker, has successfully supported several UK moulders with increasing the longevity of older high production tooling. With over 30 years’ experience, the toolmaker’s process ensures minimal disruption and production downtime, as the tool continues in production whilst replacement parts are manufactured.
The Yorkshire-based team at Faulkner Moulds focuses on first class, microns-accurate quality and accuracy, and its approach to repairs and refurbishments is no exception. Customers report that their reconditioned tooling comes back to them like new.
By retaining the existing bolster set and hot runner system, Faulkner Moulds offers a cost-effective and environmentally responsible option.
Duncan Faulkner, MD, says: “We regularly support moulders with production tools that have failed or worn out but otherwise are serviceable, runnable tools. Costs, reliable production and environmental concerns are high on our customers’ agendas. We know our quality repairs elongate tool life and improve performance.”
Using high-quality steels and manufacturing techniques, replacement dies, feed inserts and side-mover cores are manufactured, based on tool design and Faulkner Moulds’ detailed CMM scanning measurements. The tool remains in production, then, when the parts are ready, is brought to Faulkner Moulds’ for final fitting and assembly.
The tool is thoroughly stripped down, cleaned, inspected, measured and serviced to ensure all aspects are correct, such as feed detail and die pocket dimensions. The pillars and bushes, plus cone or parallel interlock mechanisms are inspected and replaced as necessary to ensure reliable tool alignment to protect the split line detail. The downtime period is usually less than 2 weeks.
The pictured replacement dies are for an existing high production food packaging caps and closure tool. Faulkner Moulds’ unique automated system can hold 197 electrodes at once for volume die manufacturing, ideal for this type of work.
