Pektron and Summit Systems Partnership Supports Injection Moulding Growth

A long-standing partnership between Pektron and Summit Systems has helped shape the material handling infrastructure at Pektron’s Derby injection moulding facility. As the operation has expanded, Summit Systems has supplied technology to improve material preparation, process control, and consistency across production runs.

Summit Technology Strengthens Process Control

Summit Systems has worked with Pektron throughout the development of its injection moulding operation. Its involvement began with Pektron’s investment in automated material drying and conveying systems and has since extended to gravimetric dosing technology and plant-wide supervisory control.

According to Pektron, these systems help ensure that each material is processed under optimal conditions, supporting consistency and repeatability across production runs.

Investment Expands Derby Moulding Operation

During the past decade, Pektron’s injection moulding facility has doubled in size and capability. The Derby site now houses 10 ENGEL injection moulding machines, supported by material handling technology from Summit Systems and operated by Pektron’s team of experienced moulding engineers.

The company said this combination of technology and engineering expertise enables it to deliver improved quality, faster turnaround times, and greater production control while competing globally from its UK manufacturing base.

Pektron produces components ranging from precision key fobs and instrument clusters to IP6K9K-rated sealed enclosures for demanding environments. Industries served include automotive, off-highway, fire safety, and military applications.

Its moulding capability covers clamping forces from 10 to 300 tonnes and shot weights from 0.2g to 500g. The facility also offers vertical injection moulding and overmoulding, with production volumes ranging from low to ultra-high volume. Components can range from A-surface aesthetic parts to ultra-robust enclosures.

An Alternative to Offshore Sourcing

Pektron positions its UK-based injection moulding operation as an alternative to traditional offshore sourcing, combining domestic production with globally competitive pricing.

The company said shorter lead times, improved communication, and fewer risks associated with long and complex supply chains can deliver both commercial and operational benefits. Its services are intended to help customers shorten and de-risk their supply chains while continuing to compete globally.

Pektron can manufacture components using existing tooling or manage the sourcing of new tooling where needed. Its global sourcing network also provides access to materials ranging from standard plastics to high-performance polymers.

The company stated that every material it uses is fully traceable and sourced from reputable suppliers, providing confidence in quality and compliance.

From Initial Design to Ongoing Production

Pektron manages plastics projects through a single point of contact, covering design, tooling, production, assembly, and testing.

Its approach focuses on developing long-term customer relationships, with end-to-end project management extending from initial specification through to ongoing production and supply.
