Plastek UK | Muddy Marvellous!
On 22nd October the intrepid Plastek Warriors once again went into battle for charity, undertaking the ‘Tough Mudder’ race at Heaton Park in Manchester. What awaited them was a gruelling 10 kilometre course with no less than 22 gruelling obstacles with names such as Hydrophobia, Electroshock Therapy, Leap or Faith and Arctic Enema.
Somewhat battered and bruised, our very own local heroes nevertheless made it around the whole course, through mud, filthy water, dangling electric-shock ribbons, over steep and slippery climbs as much as three storeys high, and under pipes, metal grids and barbed wire arranged to force the participants to crawl underwater to reach the other side.
And why did they do it? To raise a magnificent £767 for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
“The Warriors had a fabulous day,” said event organiser Danielle Harkness. “It’s incredibly hard work, and we all picked up a few cuts and bruises, but we were lucky with the weather – the two days either side of the event poured with rain. Knowing that you’re competing for a really excellent cause makes it all worthwhile, and you simply can’t complete challenges like this without loads of teamwork, so there’s a great spirit of camaraderie throughout the whole event”
The Warriors taking part – Joe Salisbury, Magdalena Pradun, Andy Lawson, Steve Bowley, Pawel Majcher, Danielle Harkness, Ewelina Grochola and Mike Jones (left to right in our picture) – would like to thank their colleagues for all their support with fundraising.
“Plastek UK sponsored the tee-shirts and hoodies we wore, loaned company pool cars to reduce fuel costs, provided much-needed drinks and snacks for after the event and also donated 2 days’ holiday and a £100 gift card to the raffle that we held internally to help raise money for the Air Ambulance. Therefore, as always, a huge thank you to Plastek for your ongoing support” said The Plastek Warriors.
The regional Air Ambulance, which operates 24 hours a day at a cost of more than £7 million per year, completely funded by donations, is a charity close to the hearts of several members of the team, having had family involvement in life-saving rescues. Danielle, Mike and Joe have recently visited their base to present the Plastek Warriors’ donation.
