Shropshire-based Plastic-IT is inviting manufacturers to discuss injection moulding projects that require greater flexibility, engineering input and customer support. Engineering support from concept to production
Plastic-IT’s Art-to-Part service supports customers throughout the product development and manufacturing process.
This can begin with an initial sketch or product concept. It continues through Design for Manufacture, additive manufacturing, prototype development, Moldflow simulation, tooling, validation, injection moulding, and contract manufacturing.
Customers do not need to begin at the concept stage, however. Plastic-IT can enter an existing project at any point, whether that involves reviewing a design, investigating a moulding defect, assessing a tool, validating a process or taking responsibility for ongoing production.
This broad capability allows the company to investigate the cause of problems, using its expert support to prevent costly defects and failures that cost customers time and money.

Advanced moulding capability in action
One recent programme highlights the breadth of the company’s engineering capability. Working under a strict confidentiality agreement for a leading company in the satellite communications sector, Plastic-IT supported the development of a highly complex product from initial concept through to full contract manufacture over a four-year period.
The project involved designing and validating precision injection mould tooling capable of consistently producing specialist metamaterial components to tolerances of ±0.05mm.
These exceptionally tight tolerances were essential to ensure multiple hemispherical mouldings aligned and mated perfectly during a secondary bonding process, eliminating cumulative tolerance build-up and creating a single, dimensionally stable homogeneous structure.
Plastic-IT then designed, commissioned and integrated a fully automated robotic overmoulding cell to deliver repeatable, high-volume production.
