PlastikCity Expands into North America

Web-based procurement and marketing hub PlastikCity have launched a brand-new platform for the North American market.

The UK group have been working closely with a small team in the USA since the beginning of 2018 to design and develop the new website (www.plastikcity.com), ensuring it is fully optimised and tailored for the North American plastics market.

PlastikCity focusses on improving efficiency and choice when companies in the plastics sector are looking to source equipment and services. It was first launched in the UK in 2013, to provide a solution to modern day business challenges, allowing users to find suppliers and obtain comparative quotes by filling in one simple form. Companies have minimal time to shop around, but still want to ensure they’re offered the latest technology and competitive prices. PlastikCity prevents the company having to carry out multiple meetings, saving time, cost, and reducing their carbon footprint.

Due to the scale of the market and geographical area, it made sense to the PlastikCity team that these benefits would be greatly increased in North America.

The PlastikCity North America site has initially launched with five main product categories, including Primary Machinery, Auxiliaries, and Robots and Automation. The site also has a Classifieds area, which includes industry jobs, and spare plastic manufacturing capacity. Suppliers already on board include ENGEL, Yushin, Frigel, and Milacron.

As well as bringing efficiency to the North American plastics industry, this project brings many benefits to the UK too. Carl Futcher, Managing Director of PlastikCity UK, commented:

“PlastikCity North America will improve transatlantic cooperation and opportunities for our UK partners, and many have already approached us to express interest in this.

“The development of the North American site has also enabled us to trial improvements and new initiatives, which we will shortly be rolling out on the PlastikCity UK website. These changes will greatly improve the efficiency and user experience of the website.”

The North American company will be headed up by Tony Firth, an industry veteran who has been in the plastics market since 1974. Tony began his career at Birkby’s Plastics in West Yorkshire, and most recently he was President of Negri Bossi North America.

PlastikCity’s North American initiative is also the subject of PlastikCity’s entry at this year’s Plastics Industry Awards. It was announced last month that PlastikCity had been nominated as a finalist for Best Business Initiative of the Year. Winners will be announced at a glittering Big Band themed gala evening on Friday 28th September 2018 at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
