PlastikCity Jobs Website Overhauled for the Benefit of Job-Seekers and Employers Alike

PlastikCity launched an industry jobs website back in 2014, with a significant update to its appearance and functionality in 2022. PlastikCity is pleased to announce another major update, which will bring benefits to candidates, employers and recruiters in the plastics sector.

Improving efficiencies and modernising the way the plastics industry operates is instrumental to the PlastikCity website, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2022. As well as its core ‘Source a Moulder’ and ‘Find a Supplier’ services, the PlastikCity website acts as a hub for industry services, with a popular ‘Used & Surplus Stocks’ area for trading machinery and materials, an area to find or advertise ‘Spare Manufacturing Capacity’, and the ‘Business Marketplace’, an area to advertise businesses for sale.

Originally launched in August 2014, the PlastikCity Jobs website allows users to browse all of the latest job roles available specific to the UK and Irish plastics industry, advertise vacancies at their company and find candidates actively seeking a role, all in one location.

Since 2014, the website has since helped hundreds of jobseekers find employment within the UK and Irish plastics market. Showcasing jobs from PlastikCity Partner companies, selected third-party recruitment companies, and other suppliers within the sector, the jobs board is specific to the plastics manufacturing sector, and has proved to be a popular and valuable industry resource for close to a decade.

Improved Search Functionality for Jobseekers

The appearance of job listings and search functionality will be improved in the website update, to aid jobseekers while searching through available job listings. The layout of the listings will change, and will be more in line with what users expect from other, larger, generic job websites.

A new sidebar will be added help navigation, allowing users to set multiple search filters at once, and allowing them to now filter by minimum salary and by work model for the first time.

PlastikCity’s Will Clarke comments: “We’re always looking at ways to improve the functionality of our website to help our users and to reflect changes in the industry and the jobs market.

“By adding the ability to filter roles by salary, and to specify either ‘On Site’ ‘Flexible/Hybrid’ or ‘Fully Remote’ work models reflects the changing priorities of jobseekers in todays’ market and will be fully supported when the new PlastikCity Jobs website goes live.

“We’ve also worked closely with our recruitment partners to find out their biggest pain points with our system from their end. We’re pleased to say we have a round of improvements planned for this side of the process aimed at increasing efficiencies and returns for the recruitment specialists we work with too.”

Improved Efficiency for Hiring Managers

Part of the changes will also be improvements to the hiring side of the system, with the addition of extra optional fields to job listings. We’re encouraging companies listing jobs to ‘sell themselves’ in the ‘Company Overview’ field, with an area to indicate why a candidate would want to join your company!
With the addition of search filters on salaries, too, we’re encouraging all hiring managers to add a salary, or at least a salary range, for the benefit of saving themselves and jobseekers time, if expectations aren’t aligned from the outset. It will be possible to hide the salary if absolutely necessary, but with these positions not appearing in salary-filtered searches, we hope we can encourage the listing of salaries whenever possible.

Finally, we’ve added a field for a recruiter reference number, which will be welcome news to our recruitment partners or hiring managers with multiple positions listed. This was the most common feedback we had from our recruitment partners, and shows the value of asking your own users for their opinions – we hear you! This simple field allows the hiring manager to enter their own reference number to keep track when multiple listings are live at once. Simple.

Under the Hood Changes

Not the updates will be immediately obvious, but we’ve made a lot of improvements to the functionality and structure of the website pages, for the benefit of search engines, as well as our users.

Without getting too boring and into technical SEO, we have updated our URL structure, separated category pages and made other small changes will help the jobs pages, and individual job listings be indexed by Google, Bing, and other search engines. This will result in more views, clicks, and applications, as the pages rank higher on searches. As with all SEO projects, this will be an ongoing effort, but we’re confident that the structural changes planned will translate into much improved SEO rankings in the months to come.
