SG Moulding Solutions Announces Exclusive Honest Ocean Recycled Polymer Partnership

SG Moulding Solutions has signed a new exclusive European agency agreement with Honest Ocean, giving customers access to high-quality food-grade recycled PET (rPET) for packaging applications. Most importantly, 1,000 tonnes of high-quality food-grade rPET is available now in UK stock and available for immediate delivery.

1,000 tonnes of food-grade rPET has been stocked in the UK and is available for immediate delivery, providing manufacturers with an immediate opportunity to increase recycled content and reduce their reliance on virgin PET.

The material is suitable for a broad range of food and beverage packaging applications, including:

• Thermoformed packaging, including trays, pots, tubs and other rigid food packaging
• Preforms
• Stretch blow moulded bottles

SG Moulding Solutions can supply the rPET resin directly and can also potentially offer preforms manufactured using the rPET, providing an additional solution for customers looking to increase recycled content without manufacturing their own preforms.

More Than Recycled Material

Honest Ocean connects European manufacturers with certified recycling operations in Southeast Asia, combining the supply of recycled polymers with community recycling and coastal plastic collection programmes in Indonesia.

Its model is designed to create a traceable route from recovered plastic through recycling and ultimately back into commercial products. Material is supported by GRS certification, batch-level traceability and Material Test Reports, giving customers greater visibility of the recycled material entering their supply chain.

Importantly, 10% of every Honest Ocean order funds its impact programmes in Lombok, including coastal collection, community recycling and local employment initiatives.

For SG Moulding Solutions, this means the partnership isn’t simply about supplying recycled resin – it provides customers with an opportunity to reduce virgin plastic consumption while supporting the collection and recovery of further plastic waste.

A Strong Commercial Case

For UK packaging manufacturers, increasing recycled content can also provide significant commercial benefits through reduced exposure to Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT), alongside the growing importance of EPR and wider European packaging legislation.

FDA-Approved Food-Grade rPP and rHDPE

While rPET is the immediate commercial focus, the Honest Ocean agreement also gives SG Moulding Solutions access to high-quality FDA-approved food-grade recycled polypropylene (rPP) and recycled high-density polyethylene (rHDPE).

These materials create an exciting additional opportunity for manufacturers that have historically found it more difficult to source high-quality recycled material for food-contact PP and HDPE applications.

The rPP opens opportunities for applications such as rigid food packaging, containers, pots, tubs, caps and closures, subject to individual application and regulatory requirements.

Similarly, the rHDPE provides another potential route towards increasing recycled content in rigid HDPE food and beverage packaging, including appropriate bottle, container and closure applications.

Both materials are available for customers looking to evaluate, trial or develop food-contact applications using recycled PP or HDPE, with supporting documentation available for technical review.

SG Moulding Solutions will work with manufacturers on potential applications, material trials and commercial requirements, bringing the same practical approach to rPP and rHDPE that it is applying to the core rPET business.
