SGH Ltd, a portfolio company of Jalex Futures, has completed the acquisition of the assets of Pilgo, a specialist pill-swallowing training aid, on 25 November 2025.

Pilgo is designed to help people who struggle to swallow tablets and capsules, whether due to physical complications or a strong aversion to swallowing pills. Research indicates that around 10–35% of the general population experience difficulties with taking medication, with even higher rates in clinical populations. Pilgo is intended to make pill taking as straightforward as drinking water, while also acting as a training aid that can deliver a long-term resolution to non-physical aversion, typically within one year.

This has particular relevance for children starting regular medication or supplements, where an early negative experience can lead to avoidance and poor adherence for life. Pilgo offers a practical way for families, carers and clinicians to introduce tablets in a controlled, confidence-building way.

An SGH spokesperson commented: “Difficulties with swallowing pills are far more common than most people realise and they put real pressure on families, clinicians and health systems. Pilgo already has a strong track record in this area. With SGH’s manufacturing and commercial capability behind it, we intend to scale access, invest in the product and ensure that people who need this solution can actually get it.

Liquid formulations are significantly more expensive for health systems to supply than standard tablets, and are often unavailable or restricted for parents outside hospital or specialist settings. By supporting more patients to take standard tablets confidently, Pilgo has the potential to reduce reliance on costly liquid alternatives and improve adherence to prescribed treatment.

A representative from Jalex Futures added: “Pilgo fits our core investment thesis of backing practical, proven products that solve real problems. This acquisition gives SGH another consumer-facing brand with clear social value, and we see strong potential to grow both domestic and international demand.

The Pilgo acquisition follows SGH’s earlier purchase of FizzJet, a globally patented swimming pool aerator, and forms part of the company’s strategy to build a portfolio of products that it can take direct to market. SGH plans to apply the same approach used with FizzJet, combining in-house design and manufacturing expertise with focused marketing and distribution support.

SGH will now work on integrating Pilgo into its operations, stabilising supply, and reviewing opportunities for product development, new packaging formats and wider channel partnerships. Further announcements on availability and distribution are expected in due course.
