Sierra 57 Consult has announced a significant dual expansion of its leadership and marketing capabilities, promoting Tom Creasey to Business Manager for Polymer Engineering and welcoming Katherine Nowill to the marketing team.
The moves signal a period of robust growth for the consultancy, as it strengthens both its technical expertise on the shop floor and its brand visibility within the global polymer and automation sectors.
From Shop Floor to Strategy
Those familiar with the Sierra 57 team will know Tom Creasey well. His foundations in the plastics industry were established on the shop floor, where his early career as a factory operator and machinist provided the technical bedrock for his transition into technical sales 15 months ago.
Sierra 57 believes that Creasey’s promotion is a testament to the value of practical experience. His understanding of materials and “real-world” manufacturing has developed more than just technical proficiency; it has fostered a problem-solving instinct and a deep-seated respect for the frontline operators who form the backbone of the plastics industry.
“I wanted to push myself further because I felt my personality would suit technical sales,” Creasey explained. “With the guidance of the team at Sierra 57, I’ve become far more commercially aware. The beauty of this hybrid role is that I still use my technical skills and occasionally get my hands dirty. It doesn’t feel possible to become stagnant.”
Strengthening Market Presence: Katherine Nowill

The company noted that Nowill’s “can-do” attitude and attention to detail will be instrumental in strengthening Sierra 57’s market presence. Her role involves working closely with Business and Engineering consultants to draft and broadcast media “scoops,” testimonials, and regular industry updates that showcase the company’s specialist services in precision engineering and manufacturing.
Training as a Competitive Advantage
In his new capacity, Creasey remains a vocal advocate for the link between technical education and operational productivity. He maintains that in an era of global competition, training is a vital tool for protecting margins and future-proofing businesses.
“When people understand the process, not just the settings, you see immediate gains: more stable moulding, less scrap, and better quality,” Creasey noted. “Good training replaces guesswork with confidence. In an industry facing real skills shortages, training also shows people they are valued, helping to retain talent.”
Creasey also highlighted the need for UK manufacturers to bridge the skills gap to remain competitive – a topic he recently championed at a FANUC open day. He believes the UK must mirror global competitors by investing in automation, workforce development, and stronger links with education to attract younger talent.
A Flexible Approach to Learning
Sierra 57 Consult distinguishes its training offering through flexibility, delivering sessions on a client’s own machinery and around specific shift patterns. Through partnerships with industry leaders, the company also offers large-group courses at world-class facilities, including the FANUC Academy, Arburg, and Haitian.
As the industry moves toward data-driven process control and machine intelligence, the combined expertise of Creasey’s technical leadership and Nowill’s marketing strategy aims to position Sierra 57 at the forefront of the UK’s plastics and precision engineering sectors.
