A free educational forum scheduled for March 2026 in Athlone will provide Irish polymer processors with insights into data-driven manufacturing. Industry experts from Sumitomo (SHI) Demag, Summit Systems and Plastech Solutions will demonstrate how to unify fragmented technology and integrate periphery equipment for better workflow efficiency.
Attendees can observe live demonstrations of real-time data extraction to support compliance and traceability. By fostering technical dialogue, the gathering aims to help companies discuss and overcome challenges relating to system integration and operational performance.
Where: First Polymers, Athlone, Ireland
Date: Tuesday 24th March or Wednesday 25th March 2026
Timings: 10 am to 3 pm, with lots of networking opportunities and free lunch
Attendees: All technical, production and quality staff welcome
This is an unmissable Big Data event. Solving real industry challenges by applying data-driven approaches. Answering unresolved questions. Fostering constructive dialogues with medical, science and technical experts and industry peers that are facing similar challenges. Attend the whole day or for several hours. Hosted at First Polymers and open to all Irish processors, companies can bring multiple team members interested in exploring the data metrics that really matter.
Learn how to optimise workflow efficiency and improve traceability through complete end-to-end integration. Industry specialists will demonstrate practical methods for connecting all processing periphery equipment, enabling the consolidation of data platforms.
Experience the technology first-hand and observe live, real-time data extractions. Multiple demonstrations will showcase how fragmented technology stacks can be effectively addressed, alongside the various data extraction options available for legacy machinery. Guests will gain insight into practical solutions designed to unify disparate systems, supporting improved operational performance and easier access to critical production data.
Program Highlights
Each day starts with Alan Harrington of First Polymer Training welcoming a distinguished guest speaker, recognised for their expertise in data exchange within the medical processing sector. This keynote presentation promises exclusive, real-world insights into how effective data exchange can enhance compliance and support validated processes.
Dave Raine, Managing Director of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag UK & Ireland, will then share practical strategies for integrating data streams in polymer processing. Drawing on successful customer projects, he will cover effective methods for achieving data synergy, overcoming integration challenges and tips for implementing unified data management in manufacturing.
Providing a short teaser, Dave expands: “The key to successful data exchange is total integration and seamless interactive connectivity between all devices, from injection moulding machines and robotics to temperature controllers and other process critical periphery equipment. With the increasing number of technologies, peripheral devices, automation and tools that need to communicate with the injection moulding machine, OPC UA enables multiple suppliers to talk seamlessly to the MES system.”
All of this will be demonstrated on a fully connected Sumitomo (SHI) Demag IntElect 75/420-250 machine connected to a Summit Systems Maguire ultra vacuum dryer and a Frigel dynamico temperature controller with AI control – all connected through Plastech Solutions BFA MES PiSolutions system.
