Tekniplaz Completes Pilot Tooling for High-Volume Injection Moulding Programme

UK injection mould toolmaker and precision engineering specialist Tekniplaz has completed a new pilot tool as the first stage of a larger high-volume injection moulding programme.

The newly completed pre-hardened 1+1 cavity tool has been designed and manufactured to validate the component design, moulding strategy, material behaviour and intended production process before the project progresses to full multi-cavity tooling.

Now ready for customer approval, the pilot tool incorporates sliding cores and stripper ejection to release internal and external threaded features. It also features a HASCO single hot nozzle system designed with the facility to move between the two cavities.

The project will subsequently progress to the manufacture of two high-specification production tools, with separate 12-cavity and 24-cavity configurations planned to support high-volume component manufacture.

Introducing a dedicated pilot stage allows potential design and processing issues to be identified before investment is committed to the larger production tools. The customer can assess component quality, material performance, moulding parameters and the proposed production approach under representative conditions before the programme is scaled up.

This approach reduces technical and commercial risk while providing an opportunity to refine the tool design and manufacturing process using evidence gathered during pilot production.
