Wittmann Materials Handling Delivers 20% Efficiency Boost at elasto

Later this month, Wittmann will show how one of the UK’s leading contract moulders has achieved significant savings and synergies – thanks to the pairing of its latest Wittmann MacroPower injection moulding machine with a bespoke materials handling system to match.

In the meantime, some advanced clues as to the latest in Wittmann materials handling technology can be seen in last month’s case study report on German moulding giant elasto:

The new Wittmann Materials Handling system at elasto provides an unlimited choice of colours for batch sizes of at a minimum of 5000 units and upwards.

Several large Drymax material dryers make up the lion’s share of the investment. Via a closed pipeline system, the granulate is transported to the coupling station and from there to the individual moulding machines.

The coordination of material flows with the machines takes place via bar code labels and hand scanners. The Wittmann M8 control system of the central system automatically checks material formulations ahead of time before releasing the material transfer.

The decision to source a Wittmann system was made after elasto visited another Wittmann reference customer who was using similar Wittmann materials handling technology.

Thanks to the investment, dust generation has been completely eliminated at elasto. The closed pipeline system plays its part in this regard, as well as the Feedmax Clean material loaders with their integrated dedusting function.

Improved efficiencies are always hard to quantify, but elasto estimates that ‘ballpark’ improvements in granulate feeding of about 20 per cent have been achieved thanks to Wittmann technology.

This Wittmann materials handling solution is a perfect illustration of the company’s new one-stop-shop slogan that was launched at the K 2025 show last Autumn, namely – “It’s All Wittmann” – whereby the company manufactures and supplies all of the technology needed for a complete injection moulding production cell and factory.
