Thormac, one of Ireland’s leading injection moulders has been partnering with Wittmann Battenfeld UK in a novel method of plastics processing.
A Wittmann Battenfeld MacroPower 350 tonne moulding machine is at the heart of the company’s latest Organo-based production which, according to Thormac director, Sean Ryan, offers many advantages over conventional thermoset or thermoplastic production. ‘Shorter cycle times, weight reduction and reduced wall thickness are some of the many benefits of fiber based moulding that Thormac is now specialising in,’ he says.
Thormac has been manufacturing in Shannon, Ireland since 1979. The management team of Maurice McLernon, Sean Ryan and David Foley completed an MBO of the company in February 2015.
The business has been steadily investing in Wittmann Battenfeld moulding technology, specialising in plastic design, prototyping, large part moulding and value added services, with particular expertise in the manufacture of low to medium volume precision components to a wide range of industries.
The company’s 40,000sq ft. manufacturing facility is located near Shannon Airport and is easily accessible on the national motorway network. The facilities include a clean room and 19 machines ranging from 25 tonne to 1100 tonne locking force.
Both Thormac and Wittmann Battenfeld UK will exhibit at the UK’s leading plastics event Interplas September 26th – 28th 2017. The former will present its capabilities in complex technical moulding, including insert and hybrid moulding and its recent work with Organo sheet materials

Wittmann Battenfeld UK will exhibit its complete range of plastics processing equipment at the show – injection moulding machines and ancillary equipment; everything for the needs of today’s injection moulder.
The company’s world-leading MicroPower moulding machine will take centre stage; moulding a ‘Lab on a Chip’ component. Wittmann robots – from Primus to Pro – will also feature, as well as the company’s latest Aton dryers, G-Max granulators, Tempro temperature controllers and other plastics production equipment.
