WITTMANN Group Present Microscale LSR Processing at Compamed

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

From November 13 to 16, 2023, WITTMANN BATTENFELD will demonstrate its expertise in the area of LSR processing at the Compamed in Düsseldorf, hall 8b, booth F03, by making a high-quality micro loudspeaker from thermoplastic and liquid silicone.

The membrane will be produced with a single-cavity mould supplied by Starlim Spritzguss, Austria, on a MicroPower 15/10H/10H Combimould specially designed for injection moulding micro parts. The machine is a multi-component model from the MicroPower series. The MicroPower exhibited at the Compamed comes equipped with a 2-step screw-and-plunger thermoplastic injection unit, a 2-step screw-and-plunger LSR aggregate, and a rotary disk integrated into the machine. The latter enables subsequent rotation of the part towards the second injection unit and back.

The machine is also laid out for clean room injection moulding. Its rotary disk is completely encapsulated. All connections for heating, temperature sensors, water temperature control, pneumatic core pulls and relevant sensors, and the exhaust valve are positioned next to the rotary disk. The closeness of the connections to the mould thus achieved enhances the machine’s operating comfort.

It is often necessary to build costly multi-cavity moulds already at the prototyping stage for the sole purpose of reaching the necessary minimum throughput of the machine. The choice of a single-cavity mould with this application demonstrates the high precision of the mould in combination with the MicroPower machine, which is specially designed for the production of micro parts.

The LSR metering pump supplied by EMT Dosiertechnik, Germany, is a 1-litre cartridge system developed for extremely small metering volumes. Smooth, continuous emptying of the cartridges ensures the highest precision and consistent quality. Another advantage is the blending section is reduced to a minimum, with the special benefit of rapid cleaning and minimal material loss with every material changeover.
