KraussMaffei to Showcase its Extrusion Technologies at PRSE 2026

At the Plastics Recycling Show Europe (PRSE) on May 5th and 6th in Amsterdam, KraussMaffei Extrusion will present its comprehensive portfolio centred on the co-rotating twin-screw extruder series ZE BluePower for mechanical and chemical plastics recycling, on booth D130. The range extends from solvent-based processes to depolymerisation and pyrolysis, as well as PUR recycling. A key role is played by the Technology Center in Laatzen, along with a strong partner network.

“Whatever our customers are planning in recycling, we develop the right solution for them. At the same time, we have extensive references in the market,” explains Lennart Eberlein, Head of Sales Compounding and Recycling at KraussMaffei Extrusion.

Against the backdrop of stricter regulatory requirements such as the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), this approach is becoming increasingly important. “Recycling is no longer an optional topic, but a central component of future-proof plastics processing. At the same time, raw material prices and regulatory pressure are rising. This makes it all the more important to take a holistic approach to recycling,” Lennart Eberlein continues.

A key component in this context is the Technology Center in Laatzen, where customers can test, optimise, and scale processes to series production under real production conditions. This is complemented by a state-of-the-art analytical laboratory. A strong network of established partners enhances the #WorldofExtrusion and enables customised system solutions.

Mechanical recycling: efficient and versatile

KraussMaffei Extrusion covers a wide range of materials in mechanical recycling, from polyolefins and PET to engineering plastics. “As the main component of around two-thirds of all plastic packaging, polyolefins offer enormous potential. Our technologies enable both food-grade recycling of rigid packaging and the upgrading of flexible and multi-layer materials into high-quality films and compounds,” says Lennart Eberlein.

The same applies to the mechanical recycling of PET, for example, in bottle-to-bottle applications. “With our ZE BluePower, we offer a particularly energy-efficient solution for processing PET. The system ensures gentle melting, effective residual moisture removal, and short residence times while maintaining intrinsic viscosity. Throughput ranges from 20 to 12,000 kg/h, enabling maximum scalability,” Lennart Eberlein adds.

Chemical recycling opens up new pathways for difficult-to-process plastic waste: KraussMaffei Extrusion offers innovative extruder technologies for feeding downstream reactor systems, for example, in pyrolysis and depolymerisation.

Chemical recycling: ZE BluePower plays to its strengths

In addition to mechanical processes, chemical recycling technologies are becoming increasingly important. KraussMaffei Extrusion offers efficient solutions for this, for example, as feed extruders for depolymerisation and pyrolysis processes. Here, too, the ZE BluePower demonstrates its strengths: it enables highly energy-efficient material processing. Vacuum degassing helps remove aggressive components from the process, thereby reducing corrosion in the customer’s reactor and thus extending the system’s service life. Continuous melt filtration reduces contamination and thus minimises cleaning effort within the process.

In addition, KraussMaffei Extrusion offers efficient downstream degassing extruders for solvent-based recycling processes.

Another example from KraussMaffei Extrusion’s chemical recycling portfolio is the purity glycoLine PU process, developed together with partners. This continuous extrusion process for the chemical recycling of polyurethane waste enables the recovery of valuable materials even from heavily contaminated material streams, providing a cost-effective alternative to conventional batch processes.

Bringing recycling to life at PRSE

At PRSE, KraussMaffei Extrusion brings recycling to life in a visual and interactive way: an exhibit table guides visitors through typical applications – from household packaging waste to automotive components and refrigerator recycling – and showcases suitable technologies and process solutions.
