Ampacet offers a wide range of innovative masterbatches which allow product designers to optimise their plastic packaging so that, when becoming waste, they can go through every step of the recycling process (e.g. collection, sorting, reprocessing), generating qualitative post-consumer recycled materials for manufacturing new products.
Ampacet REC-NIR-BLACK carbon black-free masterbatch range provides a second life for black plastic packaging. While most black packaging cannot be sorted by recycling companies, packaging using Ampacet’s carbon black-free masterbatch products can be scanned by near-infrared technology for automated sorting at recovery facilities. This technology enables the reuse, repair and recycling of black packaging waste and allows recyclers to valorise this waste and support the circular economy. In 2019, REC-NIR-BLACK received the Plastics Recycling Awards Europe prize for Product Technology Innovation of the Year.
Ampacet Nucleant improves the mechanical properties and stiffness of injected or thermoformed polypropylene parts without affecting polymer density or transparency. It allows the downgauging of polypropylene parts and end products while maintaining the same rigidity, and is suitable for both virgin and post-consumer resins. As it does not alter polymer density, the use of Ampacet Nucleant maintains effective flotation separation at recycling facilities, helping customers achieve their sustainability goals. Suitable for opaque or transparent applications, Ampacet Nucleant features excellent optical properties, including improved clarity and reduced haze when used for transparent parts.
Ampacet GASTOP-FlexTM is a technology platform designed to boost polyolefins’ gas barrier properties. Ampacet GASTOP-Flex masterbatches allow the manufacturing of high-barrier packaging, keeping EVOH content below 5%, in compliance with RecyClass design guidelines for the circular economy. GASTOP-Flex masterbatches also enable down-gauging of general-purpose packaging structures to reduce the weight of packaging, without affecting water vapour permeation. Ampacet GASTOP-Flex is designed for use in monolayer as well as multi-layer general-purpose and barrier polyolefin films on conventional as well as mono and bi-orientation stretching film equipment.
Packaging design guidelines (Recyclass, Ceflex…) recommend laser marking, as an alternate marking technique to ink printing, for simple monochrome marking like “best-before” dates and bar codes. Ampacet LaserMarkTM and LaserMarkFlexTM are laser marking solutions, including antimony-free versions, enabling high contrast marking on clear and dark surfaces using NdYAG (1,064 nm) laser technology.
