Andel Plastics Reduces Scrap and Downtime with Intouch

Birmingham-based injection moulder and toolmaker, Andel Plastics, implemented the Intouch system in 2018 to monitor its injection moulding and CNC machines. Since then, the company has seen impressive reductions in scrap levels and downtime.

Established in 1975, Andel Plastics is an exemplary full-service injection moulding facility with an in-house toolroom and class 7 cleanroom, and a range of assembly services, post-machining, ultrasonic welding and printing services.

Andel Plastics have been able to remain open during the Covid-19 lockdown. Having a toolroom in-house in the UK has been a massive advantage, and the toolmaking team have pulled out all the stops for NHS tooling and moulding to help in the fight against Covid-19.

The company implemented Intouch in 2018, using the system to monitor its 20 injection moulding machines and 2 CNC machining centres.

Pleased with the results since then, Helena Flowers, Managing Director of Andel Plastics commented:

The real-time data we view allows us to quickly identify issues on the production run, reduce scrap and downtime on the machines accordingly.  This is paramount to being able to identify any issues and get to the root cause of them efficiently but also ensures that we can react quickly to ensure that customer orders are met in full and on time.

We most regularly use the scheduling of orders onto the machines: this enables us to immediately see whether we are running over or under capacity and allows us to react quickly.

Andel finds the ability to monitor their cycle times consistently over a production run as well as keeping a tally on scrap produced means that they can charge their customers a price in-line with actual production costs.

Intouch’s customer service is excellent with requests for customisation and additional reports dealt with professionally and speedily. The flexible and affordable Intouch system is designed to be easy to use, integrate with existing ERP systems and to connect to new and legacy machines.
