From November 2025, ARBURG Ltd. will make several personnel changes that will strengthen the business and boost customer service, as long-serving employees retire, and staff members step up to senior roles. The new roles reflect higher demands on after-sales support as machine technologies and digital services both increase.

Changing of the guard marks a new strategy

As announced in August 2025, Steve Thomson will become Managing Director of ARBURG Ltd. on December 1, 2025. With a strong pedigree in the moulding industry, Steve has a vision for the company’s future that prioritises customer satisfaction, training and communication. Recognising the challenges faced by customers, particularly in staffing, his top priority is to provide the support and solutions needed to navigate these difficulties.

Part of Steve’s leadership will be to focus on building a team that shares his commitment to enhancing customer experience and to match that with staff knowledge. He believes that ARBURG’s longstanding reputation for reliable machinery should be mirrored by the support and skills within his team. This alignment will be crucial as customers grapple with various operational challenges, including skills shortages and high energy costs.

Connections between departments are being reinforced. “Historically, sales and after-sales (service/spares) have operated separately. That is changing,” adds Alex Gall, After Sales Manager. “We want to create a stronger connection between these areas so we can provide the best possible support to our customers – that is my primary focus.”

Two new service engineers join in January

After Sales Support Engineer Kim Sharpe will also leave the company in November, after an exceptional 40 years’ service. Jake Warnock will replace Kim in a new, expanded role that reflects his knowledge. With over 10 years’ experience as a Senior Service Engineer, Jake will support both ARBURG’s service engineers on the road and customers directly. He will also be available for customer visits when complex issues arise. Additionally, Jake will be involved in larger projects alongside the Automation and Application Engineers.

Matthew Faries will replace Roger Talbot as Service Controller from 4th May 2026. Roger will retire from ARBURG Ltd. on 1st May 2026 after more than 30 years’ dedicated service.

Matthew will become ARBURG customers’ main point of contact for all service issues and for arranging service visits with our engineers. He has more than 10 years’ experience with ARBURG as a Senior Service Engineer.

As Jake and Matt transition from their roles as Senior Service Engineers, ARBURG has recruited two new Service Engineers who will join the company on 5th January 2026.

In addition, Freya Barnett joined ARBURG Ltd. in October as Sales/After-sales Administrator. Part of Freya’s job will be to improve the link between the sales and after-sales teams to ensure good communication and coordination, as well as to increase ARBURG’s online brand and social media presence.

Training and sharing knowledge are essential to the new strategy

Part of the company’s new strategy is to bring staff closer together and communicate more. “The introduction of Matthew Faries and Jake Warnock to the internal after-sales team brings valuable, up-to-date knowledge from the field,” says After Sales Manager Alex Gall. “Their expertise covers not only service but also automation, turnkey solutions, and applications. Having them based in the office will greatly improve collaboration with our automation and application engineers. Jake will also play a key role in larger projects to ensure they run as smoothly as possible”.

ARBURG’s internal technical team now comprises former service engineers Stephen Redman-Windsor, Jake Warnock, and Matthew Faries, who together have 30 years’ combined service. “They will also help strengthen the link to our digital after-sales products, which is growing all the time,” Alex adds.

ARBURG Ltd. is looking forward to two additional engineers joining the business in January. They will be fast-tracked onto the training program in Lossburg soon after joining. “We have also taken on Jake Wills as an apprentice in September who will follow his apprenticeship all the way into the service department,” adds retiring managing director, Colin Tirel.

Focus on sustainability

Passionate about industrial sustainability, Steve is determined to support the decarbonising initiatives from Lossburg, such as arburgGREENworld, energy efficiency and the promotion of recyclates. This was demonstrated in October, when ARBURG won gold in the international Ecovadis Sustainability Awards for the third time. Only two to five per cent of the world’s most sustainable industrial companies receive this award.

He will speak about the importance of producing useful, long-lasting parts at the upcoming Interplas Show in June 2026, ensuring that far fewer moulded products are wasted. This commitment reflects a broader effort to improve the public perception of the plastics industry, particularly regarding recycling plastic.
