Gunther UK has highlighted a recent customer project that demanded compact, plate-driven hot runner technology for high-cavity moulding applications. The customer required a 16-cavity mould with the smallest possible overall tool size, allowing the mould to run in their preferred injection moulding machine without compromising on quality or consistency – the perfect application for Gunther’s Compact Drive.
This project highlights the key advantages of a plate-driven system. A smaller footprint can mean a smaller injection moulding machine and potentially reduced tooling costs, helping to achieve a faster ROI. With only a single cylinder required to actuate all 16 valve pins, the system remains highly efficient with all pins closing simultaneously for consistent performance across every cavity.
The Gunther system is ideally suited and renowned for the processing of very small part weights, as is the case here – each component weighs just 0.05g so the total shotweight over the 16 cavity system is only 0.8g. To complement the system, Gunther utilised its energy-efficient BlueFlow® 5NMF nozzles with pitch centres of just 23.5mm – delivering precision in an extremely compact space.
