arburgXvision: “Climate Protection with Plastic – Ways Out of the Environmental Crisis”

Our interactive Internet format “arburgXvision” takes an informative, knowledgeable and entertaining approach to tackling hot topics in the plastics industry. The hour-long episode scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on 22 September 2022 goes by the edgy title “Climate protection with plastic – ways out of the environmental crisis”. Two terms from opposite ends of this particular spectrum capture the essence of the discussion. How can plastic – all too often dismissed as a substandard and wasteful resource – possibly play a role in protecting the environment?

The episode, to be broadcast in German, will focus on the circular economy and the recycling of plastics. Rather than being dismissed as waste products, plastics should be seen as valuable raw materials that “make things happen”. They are indispensable in many industries – think of medical technology, for example. Gerhard Böhm, Managing Director of Sales and Service, and Bertram Stern, Arburg’s Sustainability Manager, will be joined by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Josef Endres, Head of the Institute for Plastics and Circular Economy (IKK) at Leibniz University Hannover, discusses the potential for plastic to contribute to protecting the environment in the future.

Taking a practical approach: recyclate processing and circular economy

The transmission will then switch to Arburg’s headquarters in Lossburg, where Christian Homp, Team Manager of Applications & Industries, will introduce viewers to several applications in which Arburg is using recyclates to build a functioning circular economy. These include projects such as R-Cycle and HolyGrail, which take an innovative approach to identifying plastic products and recycling them by type, as well as machine-specific solutions already in active use, including the retrofittable recyclate package for all Allrounders.
