PlastikCity is marking its 14th anniversary with a new headquarters, a brand-new platform in development and plans to expand its team and services over the next two years.
Incorporated on 26 October 2012 by Carl Futcher, the company has since distributed more than 31,000 requests for quotation to its partners, helping connect buyers with suppliers across the UK and Irish plastics industry. Its next stage will include further recruitment and expanded services across PlastikCity and its specialist news and marketing division, PlastikMedia.
The most visible change this year came in July, when the team moved from a converted wing of Carl’s family home to dedicated premises at Bitteswell Business Park in Leicestershire. The larger office gives the business space to accommodate its plans, following almost 14 years at its original base.
Jess Clarke, Managing Director of PlastikCity and PlastikMedia, commented:
“For much of PlastikCity’s history, growing the business also meant taking over a little more of my parents’ house. Moving into our own premises this year was a significant moment for us, and gives us the space to plan properly for what comes next.
“We have a brand-new platform in development, plans to grow the team and further services to introduce over the next year or two. Taken together, these represent a substantial next step for the business. Our focus is on making that investment useful to the companies we work with, helping buyers find the right suppliers and helping suppliers generate opportunities.”
Founding Partners, Lasting Relationships
A look back at PlastikCity’s first email newsletter reveals some familiar names. Summit Systems, Tool-Temp and Jenco all appeared in that early edition and remain PlastikCity Partners today.
Those relationships connect the company’s beginnings with the business it has become. When the website launched in May 2013, it offered just five categories. Its purpose was straightforward: help busy moulders identify suitable suppliers and obtain comparative quotations without repeating the same enquiry to multiple companies.
That principle remains central to the platform, which has since expanded to cover hundreds of product and service categories. The cumulative total of more than 31,000 RFQs distributed to partners provides a measure of the sourcing activity it has supported along the way.
Carl Futcher, Founder of PlastikCity, reflected:
“Looking at that first newsletter and seeing companies we still work with today is particularly rewarding. They supported the idea when it was new, and those relationships mean a great deal. Seeing Jess and the team now investing in the next stage of the business makes me proud of what we started.”
New Skills and New Ways to Reach the Industry
The move has been followed by investment in the team. George Nowill joined as Marketing Executive in August, bringing more than four years of B2B marketing experience, including work within manufacturing. He supports content, digital campaigns and client marketing activity across both brands.
Earlier in the year, PlastikMedia launched The Morning Brief, a two-minute weekday podcast covering plastics industry news. Developed in response to increased use of audio on its news articles, the briefing gives listeners a convenient way to catch up on industry developments while working through their morning tasks. It has since been named a finalist for Best Business Initiative at the Plastics Industry Awards 2026.
The nomination follows two wins at the 2024 awards, where PlastikCity on Tour received Best Business Initiative of the Year and founder Carl Futcher was recognised with the Plastics Industry Ambassador Award for his contribution to the sector.
These developments reflect how the business has evolved since 2012. Alongside procurement, it now helps companies communicate with the sector through industry news and specialist marketing services.
Jess added:
“Fourteen years gives us plenty to look back on, but this anniversary comes at a point when we are putting a lot into the future. We want to build on the relationships and industry knowledge we have developed, while continuing to improve what we offer. There is a huge amount of work happening behind the scenes, and we look forward to sharing more as those plans take shape.”
