UPM Conveyors have developed a range of conveyors for faster cooling of moulded multi-impression closures.
To cater for multi impression closure moulding, where typically 120 caps can be moulded on a 10 second cycle, it is imperative to cool them down, to avoid deflection in the collection bin. There is another major advantage in quickly removing heat from the product, which is to further reduce the cycle time. UPM’s new range incorporates high air flow fans mounted over a water cooled heat exchanger, as shown in the image above.
Cold air is blown onto the closures to typically reduce the temperature from 70 C to 20C.
UPM have also fitted air ionisers at the discharge area to remove static. As a result, one major closure manufacturer has seen a production increase of 38% with a payback time of only 3 months.
